    Sea of Thieves is a land filled with treasure and mystery. However one of the largest threats in the game is not any AI that you may come across, yet instead the largest threat that players face on the sea of thieves is other players. And in the seas there are many weapons that you can use in order to deal with these threats. These weapons range from mystical skulls filled with flames, to tridents found at the depths of the seas. And then there are the given regular weapons that every pirate have access to. 

The Trident of Dark Tides 

    The trident of dark tides is a weapon that is found at the depths. Or can also be found after battling treacherous waves of enemies at the various different forts found across the seas. The trident of dark tides is different from other weapons because of the nature of its damage. There are three different tiers of damage that increase by 30 points for each level. If you hold down the fire button, then the bubble will expand three levels. The first base level does 30 damage and takes the least amount of charges. The second level does 60 damage and fires slower than the first level. The pattern continues to the third level, the third level does 90 damage however fires much slower than the previous two levels. 

What can the Trident be used for? 

    The Trident of dark tides can prove to be a very useful weapon and can be used in a variety of situations. One of the best situations that I can think of where the trident can be used is for firing at ships close range, the trident is able to knock people off the cannons, so if you want a break from being pelted by cannons, take a few shots with the trident to get them knocked off the cannons. 

    The trident can also be used when you have a boarder. Run down to the bottom deck and charge the trident, the damage radius of the bubble is very large so when you see the enemy come down the stairs shoot the trident and the bubble has a large radius so you do not even have to aim the trident in order to get the kill, they will be stunned and be low enough hp to finish them off with one swipe of a sword. 

    However one of the downsides of the trident is the damage, even at the third level of damage it only does 90 damage, which means you have to place the trident down, pull out your other weapon and get a hit off in order to get the kill, which lowers the versatility of the weapon, an alternative is to take a second shot with the trident however that is risky because it takes time to charge. 

Kegs 

    Kegs are probably my favorite weapon in sea of thieves because of how funny the plays are. Kegs are mostly used as an offensive weapon against enemy ships in order to deal substantial damage as well as killing any players in its fatal radius. It is a game changing weapon and can either sink a ship in an instant or it can be used against you.  

Ashen Winds Skull 

    The ashen winds skull was the first legendary weapon to enter sea of thieves and was only obtainable through the ashen winds event. However recently with the addition of the fort of fortune you are able to get it by digging it up and it does a substantial amount of damage, think of it as a flame thrower. It has great pvp potential because you are able to do great amount of damage to a persons ship using the fire, as well as do great player damage and limit their line of sight. However if you are looking for a gold reward for it, best to not use it, as its worth deteriorates the more you use it. 

Regular weapons 

    Now that we have covered the legendary weapons and the weapons such as kegs lets cover the most basic weapons that all pirates have access to whether you have a dollar to your name or a million. The pistol is best for medium range, the blunderbuss is best for close range, and the sniper is best for long range, and the sword is used for short range and stuns. 

    However each weapon has its own play style. The blunderbuss is very situational. If you get really up close and personal in your encounters than the blunderbuss will prevail. If you jump around on the enemy ship and always keep slight distance than the pistol is probably your best best. If you consider yourself a sharpshooter and are able to make quick scope shots and like to keep your distance than the sniper is your best bet. If you like to keep your enemies stunned and have good movement skills than you should choose the sword. Keep in mind that you are able to combine these weapons. You are not limited to only one as you are able to use two weapons in your inventory.

    It is also important to know that each weapon comes with a trade off. The sword has very little damage and you have to hit four swipes without them healing in order to kill them all while limiting your movement. The sniper has a severe trade off because it is difficult to hit those shots. If you do not hit the shot you are punished with a longer reload time and there is also the aiming down sight speed that punishes your efforts. The blunderbuss has severe damage drop off and is useless at even medium range. And finally the pistol has lower damage but a quicker reload and aiming down sights which makes it slightly a jack of all trades. But you know what they say, a jack of all trades is a master of none. 

Unconventional Weapons 

    One of the cool parts of Sea of Thieves is the fact that weapons can be found everywhere and even if they are unconventional they still hold great use in game. For example the fire bomb. It is a great weapon that can cause chaos on any poorly organized ship, dealing damage to both the player and the ship as well as causing risk to their crewmates can keep the enemy crew off their cannons for a long period of time. Also blunderbombs are another great unconventional weapon that serves many purposes, you can use them to take out your team mates which is how I often find myself using them, or you can use them to give yourself the strategic advantage. Trying to climb a ladder? Throw a good old blunder bomb their way and freely climb. It can also be shot out of cannons to prevent them from repairing their ship which is also a great strategic use. 

Conclusion 

    In conclusion there are plenty of weapons in sea of thieves but you are wondering what is the best weapon in the game. And to that I will probably have to say the flintlock pistol. It is certainly a controversial opinion. Although some weapons may be better in certain hands than others for example the eye of reach or the sniper. The flintlock pistol in comparison to all other weapons in the hands of an average player is the best weapon. The blunderbuss is too circumstantial, the eye of reach is too difficult to use, and the sword does not do enough damage, the other weapons are too difficult to obtain. Therefore the flintlock pistol is the jack of all trades and is the best weapon for any trusted pirate.
