How To Hit Pirate Legend In Sea of Thieves 

    Sea of Thieves is a land of mystery, legends, and stories. It is a sandbox where players make the stories that crews tell each other, players become myth and even legend. Sea of Thieves does an amazing job at giving players a platform to become these myths and legends. It is the end game of sea of thieves and is the main priority and core aspect to the gameplay loop. 

    Pirate legend means that you have achieved level 50 in at least three of the trading companies in the game. It is a very hard grind and it took me about a year of consistent playing in order to achieve Pirate Legend. But now I am a legend among thieves and I am here to give my input on how to cross that milestone of achieving Pirate legend. 

Skeleton Forts

    Skeleton forts were one of the only ways to get a large amount of loot when the game first came out. It was a server wide battle and many attempts were futile as it was the targets of all pirates on the server because it was one of the only ways to hit pirate legend without enduring the crazy grind that were voyages. And voyages may I add were a futile effort, they gave no loot and were mind numbingly boring.  However today, there is a large mix of things to do out on the seas, skeleton forts are no longer the sole effort on the server. And they still hold the same loot potential, if not more. As a result if you want to hit pirate legend I suggest forgetting about all those voyages and stick to skeleton forts. They give loot for every trading company (the good ones). And also give substantial amount of money. Skeleton forts were how I achieved Pirate legend and they can be the way you do too

Emissaries 

    Emissaries were probably the addition that slightly devalued the rank of Pirate legend. Because it made it much easier to achieve. If you do not know what an emissary is, it makes you a representative of a specific trading company, and when you do actions that help serve that company your rank becomes higher and you recieve a boost to everything that you turn in to that respective company. This means that you could be putting the same effort but if you have level five you are getting 2.5 times as much gold and reputation. Since this update getting pirate legend has become 2.5 times faster. It is probably the best way to become pirate legend although it is not as fun because this one reqiures you to do voyages for the specific company which I find extremely boring. 

    Also if you get to level five in an emissary you can get a quest when you turn your flag in. When you do this you get put on a voyage for a large amount of treasure for that specific company. And it is enough treasure to get you to level five again which allows you to rinse and repeat the cycle which I find pretty cool. As a result you are able to grind to pirate legend using this emissary system. Set a period of time aside for each company and grind your way up. 

Be a Pirate

    This has got to be the most fun way to become pirate legend. Anyone can dig up a chest but its another feat to take it from someone else. Being a pirate doesnt mean going around doing voyages, being a pirate means stealing stuff that is not yours! so go ahead and take it! This is the most fun, as you have riveting encounters and stories that you will remember and makes the treasure much more rewarding to turn in becase you get to reap the rewards of someone elses work. However be a team player and accept it when it happens to you, after all there is always a bigger fish in the sea. 

Fort of fortune 

    I do not recommend this course of action. This is because it is the most valuable fort in the game. And it resembles the chaos and wasted efforts that the original skeleton forts had in the early days. It attracts all ships on the server and most cases ends in a blood bath where everyone gives up and no one gets the loot after hours of rage and fighting. It is a futile effort with little to no chance of you getting the loot, and you are better off waiting for someone to finish it and swoop in to reap the rewards. However the rest of the server might have the same idea. Be warned, although the loot is large, the lengths you will have to go to in order to get it are not worth it. 

Fort Of The Damned

     The fort of tuckers. It gains this name because all crews on the server will sneak on to the island and hide and wait until you finish to strike. Without fault whenever you do this fort you will have it stolen by someone hiding on your ship or the island. However the benefits of this fort is that it is player activated. Which means if you are bored and want to do something but nothing interesting is activated you can activate the fort yourself. However in order to activate it you must go through a few chores that takes almost as long as the fort itself. Which can become tedious. Although there is substantial loot, it is not worth it when you can just do a regular fort instead. However there are some cool cosmetics connected to commendations achieved through fort of the damned so I guess it can be a win win. 

Voyages 

    This is the worst option and I beg you not to do it this way. Voyages are tedious, boring, and give little to no loot in return. They are not worth your time and the odds are you will be sunk by a passer by while you are on the other side of the island. It is not worth your time to do voyages. But if you are looking for a relaxing stress free activity to do and you dont mind the risk of having all your efforts wasted due to being sunk by a few reapers than be my guest voyage your way up to pirate legend, but when your hair turns grey before you hit pirate legend, dont tell me I didn't warn you. 

Conclusion 

    In conclusion the best way to hit pirate legend is a combination of any of the above and using an emissary.  Choose a company that you want to increase your reputation with and select a play style that matches you the most. Do you want to have a memorable fun time on the seas while getting the work done? put on an emissary and go steal some loot. You'll get a bonus for the trading company you selected and you'll have a good time in the process. If you want to sit back and relax, put on an emissary and do some voyages (get some hair dye for when your hair turns grey though). But my final opinion is to do what you have fun most and combine it with an emissary flag and you will achieve pirate legend in no time.
