The Fort of the Damned Explained - Sea of Thieves
What is the Fort of The Damned?
Previosuly at the launch of the game Sea of Thieves, there would be only one way to make a substantial amount of loot. Over time of course the developers have added other world events each one uniquely themed, some are closer to the others. However there is only on eplayer activated world event in the entire game (at the time of writing of course) this player activated fort is known as the fort of the damned. It is filled with tuckers, frustration, and missed cannon shots onto the island. Today I will explain how to activate the fort of the damned, what loot it gives, the strategies you can use to complete it and how it works.
Where it is located
The fort of the damned can be located on the maps given to each ship by defult. It is a little bit south of the center of the map. However if you are looking for it out on the seas you will have a little more difficulty as it is hidden in a thick layer of fog. If you are not looking for it, it becomes very easy to miss it. However if you are looking for it. A cloud of ominous fog on the seas is its tell.
Here is where it is located on the map, it is close to reapers hide out. Coordinates L14
It can also be located if it is activated. All events in the game send a signal to the server that it is active. The fort of the damned is no different, a large red eyed skeleton skull will appear in the sky giving every pirate in the server notice what you are up to. Or instead if you get lucky enough to get int a game with one of these red skulls you now know that they are kindly finishing the fort for you so you can take the loot.
How To Activate It
In order to activate the fort you will need a few things. You will need a ritual skull and the six flames of fate. I will explain each flame, how to obtain it, and where you can find a ritual skull
Ritual Skull
Ritual skulls can be found in many places. It can be found in ashen chests that have been unlocked, it can be found in loot pools from sunken skeleton ships or completed skeleton forts. But it can also be purchased by the bilge rats representative. When you purchase it it comes in the form of a voyage. So vote for the voyage in your captains quarters. And the voyage will take place on the same island that you had just purchased it from. X marks the spot. Once you find the skull hold on to it because you will need it once you get the flames of fate.
The Flames of Fate
The flames of fate are different color flames that you can light your in game lantern with. They are found when you die in different ways. To collect the flame from what you just died by you must go to the ferry of the damned, hold the lantern up to the well of fates which is located behind the middle mast of the ship over top of the cargo hold gate. Hold your lantern up or raise it. And then press take flame. And if you died in a way that has a flame, your lantern will change color.
Now it is important that you do not lose this flame, so when you return to your ship raise your lantern to one of your ships lanterns and press set flame. Be careful not to press take flame or else you will have to repeat the previous process which can be quite lengthy.
Below are the flames of fate, how you obtain them, and what they look like:
Blue - Die By Shark
Once you obtain all of the flames of fate and they are safley aboard your ship in your lanterns. Then you can make your way to the fort of the damned. Once you are here, place the skull on the headless skeleton at the front, and place each flame of fate in the lanterns of their respective color of ferryman statues in the arena. Once you do the fort will start and the skull in the sky will form.
How it works
There are twelve waves of skeletons and then a final boss. Each wave has a color of skeletons that will spawn which is random. In order to know what the color will be look at the gates of each color. If there are green hands reaching out, it will be that color. The skeletons are invincible unless you shine them with their respective color. They will then change from see through to solid. And they are able to be killed and take damage now.
Every three waves another color is added. From wave 1-3 there is only one color that is active. For example all skeletons will need the green light for wave one. The blue light for wave 2 and the purple light for wave 3. However it gets more complicated at wave 4 because now there are two lights you need each wave. And at wave 9 there are three lights. So it requires a great deal of communication.
Final Boss
Once all 12 waves are complete the final boss will spawn. His name is grey marrow. He is a bullet sponge that will take you ages to defeat through conventional weapons so instead I recommend using the kegs on the island, firebombs, blunder bombs, and cannons in order to take him out it will be much quicker. It is important to understand that the longer the fort is up the more likely someone will come and take it from you.
